What the Champion Standby Generators terms actually mean
14 kW vs. 22 kW aXis
Champion's published aXis whole-house sheet rates the 14 kW unit at 14 kW on propane and 12.5 kW on natural gas; the 22 kW unit is rated at 22 kW on propane and 19.8 kW on natural gas. Actual sizing should account for starting loads and the loads the transfer system will manage—not square footage alone.

Champion's aXis fact sheet specifies a 24-volt starting system designed for operation down to -22°F. That does not mean every Champion uses the same batteries: for example, Champion's model 100515 manual specifies two 12V Group U1 batteries with at least 350 CCA each. Always match the exact model manual before buying batteries.

Five terms you should not have to decode
kW (kilowatts)
A measure of generator power. One kilowatt equals 1,000 watts. A bigger kW number means more electrical capacity, but it does not automatically mean the generator can run every appliance in every home.
ATS (automatic transfer switch)
The electrical switch that detects a utility outage, disconnects the home from the grid and connects it to generator power. When utility power returns, it switches the home back automatically.
Air-cooled vs. liquid-cooled
Two different ways the engine removes heat. Air-cooled units are common in smaller residential standby systems; liquid-cooled systems are generally used as capacity and engine size increase. Maintenance and installation rules differ.
Exercise / self-test cycle
A scheduled automatic test the generator performs when there is no outage. It is simply checking that the system can start and report faults; it has nothing to do with a workout program.
Load management
A control strategy that delays or prioritizes selected large appliances so they do not all demand power at the same time. It can sometimes let a smaller generator support more of the home without overloading.

- • The 10-year generator warranty has a coverage schedule; later years are not identical to years 1–2, and consumables such as starting batteries are excluded.
- • Battery group and quantity vary by model and generation even when multiple Champion systems use 24V starting. Use our model-specific battery finder or the exact Champion manual before ordering.
- • Installed price cannot be inferred from generator price alone. Champion says a site survey accounts for the generator, transfer switch, load-management modules, placement, electrical work, fuel plumbing, fittings and batteries.
- • Dealer and service availability should be checked in your ZIP before purchase, especially if local warranty service matters.
