Will your standby generator actually be ready when it is below freezing?
Winter reliability depends on the exact model, battery, oil, intake/exhaust clearance, fuel system and whether the manufacturer specifies cold-weather accessories.

Cold-weather prep is model-specific.
Do not assume every generator needs the same heater kit or oil. Some models are built for very low-temperature starting out of the box; others rely on battery, oil, breather or coolant heaters below specific temperatures.
Battery
Cold reduces available cranking power. Battery age, CCA and model-specific heater guidance matter.
Oil
Use the viscosity required by the exact model/manual and temperature range. Do not apply another brand's oil rule.
Snow & airflow
Keep intake and exhaust paths clear. Snow and ice around the enclosure can affect safe operation.
Fuel
Natural-gas capacity and propane vaporization can become more important in extreme cold and high loads.
